Control mold on glass, tiles and plaster

How can you control mold? As discussed in other articles on this website, this depends on the one hand on the surface and on the other hand on the intensity of the mold growth. Mold clean up of a glass surface and on coated materials or on ceramic surfaces like tiles it usually done with small efforts. In order to control mold on such surfaces, thoroughly wipe the area with a wet cloth to get rid of visible mold and the mycelia. Now wipe the surface with strong alcohol (70%-80% alcohol by volume) or isopropanol to finish of the mildew. In doing so, you can tackle the remaining spores of the mold so that you are not faced with a similar situation a few months down the line. When applying alcohol to control mold, avoid smoking and/or naked flames due to fire hazards.

In doing so the mold clean up is already complete and the treated materials can be used again. It is very important to identify the cause for the mold growth on ceramic surfaces and glass, in order to avoid future mold growth.

Should you have mold growth on plaster it is very important to identify the cause for the mold growth before starting mold clean up. Is the plaster penetrated with moisture due to, for example a burst pipe, and did this maybe happen some time ago without any remedial actions like drying taken, it will be rather laborious and time-consuming to control mold. This is because the mold had enough time to contaminate the plaster. Depending on the type of plaster, this can take some time, however in order to guarantee complete mold clean up, in cases like this, the plaster should be taken down completely. Should you have a short-term mold growth; treatment with alcohol will suffice to contol mold. But again, it is pivotal to identify the cause for mold growth and eliminate it, as otherwise the best possible mold clean up will not be successful in the long run.

I would like to recommend again that, should you have large-scale mold growth, to contact a specialist company for mold clean up. This is because mold remediation works can release large amounts of mildew spores which can pose considerable health hazards.

I wish you every success with your efforts to control mold
